Avivi's science promotion solution: create NFTs from your own scientific researches

The development of modern science is happening so rapidly that sometimes we don't even have time to follow innovations and breakthrough technologies. But, as practice shows, humanity has an almost inexhaustible potential for development, so the contribution of every scientist is important. One of Avivi's customers from the United States of America believes in this, and he strives to popularize science and provide practical assistance to authors of scientific works and young scientists who are just starting their careers. For this purpose, the customer decided to create his own service and presented his concept to the Avivi team. Thus, a fruitful cooperation was established, which culminated in the implementation of a promising high-tech project.

A summary of the project idea

The basis for the development of new ideas is a platform where like-minded people have access to important information, discussions and communication. THIELIUM — a future service for scientists from all over the world, united by the desire to make this world better and more perfect — was supposed to be such a place. This portal provides an opportunity for authors of scientific articles to post their own works for viewing by the general public, organize discussions and participate in discussions of other users. Of course, similar projects already exist, but THIELIUM has one unique feature that sets it apart from the rest. The vast majority of scientific resources work in the same way: some part of the information is available to users, and for full viewing you need to pay for a subscription or purchase a specific material. THIELIUM works differently: a non-fungible token, i.e. NFT, can be created from any article. The token holder has unlimited access to all labor data. The value of such a token is determined by the author, but it is affected by the recognizability and relevance of the scientific work: the more it is addressed, referenced and cited by others, the higher the NFT value will be. A simple but fair commercial scheme that the developers of Avivi should have implemented. And we managed it.

Development stages and features of the project

THIELIUM is a completely unique product, created from scratch according to the customer's wishes: from planning and design to testing and launch. The backend of the service is written in Python, as this high-level programming language fully meets all basic needs:

  • Ensuring stable functionality and user safety;

  • Integration with third-party services;

  • Ethereum blockchain interaction for NFT mint.

The design is distinguished by a restrained and calm interface, typical of serious scientific projects, intuitively understandable and convenient. We didn't use anything extra, so the frontend is made using HTML5, CSS and Javascript.

From the point of view of users, three options are possible:

  • An unregistered user is any visitor for whom a minimum of information is available: about the project, the most popular articles (headline and short preview, most popular NFTs);

  • Registered users are all those who register using an e-mail address or a LinkedIn account in order to access information for their personal needs.;

  • Scientists are authors of scientific articles, papers and monographs who can publish their own work and create NFT. These users must register using work.id and email with the domain name of the academic institution they represent. The list of domains is edited by the site administrator.

In the personal account, users see their own information, as well as reactions to posts in the forum, the rating of posts, etc. Scholars also see the number of their own published articles and NFTs created.

The forum on the site works according to standard rules. Any of the registered users can participate in the discussion and rate the posts according to the "+1 or -1" rule. The system monitors the overall rating of posts and forms the issue of posts for general viewing.

Articles and NFTs

For convenience and understanding, the word "articles" is used on the site, but in reality these may not be just articles in the form familiar to each of us, but entire scientific works of several hundred pages. Unlike forum posts, where users have a familiar interface for editing text, articles are created in a completely different way.

THIELIUM is integrated with the scientific platform Jupyter , widely known in scientific circles. This software provides embedding of dynamic graphs, diagrams, code elements, tables and much more, without which no scientific work is possible.

The author of the article must upload a special Jupyter file to THIELIUM, which is created and edited according to established rules of the scientific community. One of the important elements of the file is a section with references to the materials of the work contained in the international database of the NIH. Since this is a closed database, the link can only be obtained by using the API. On the basis of the received information, a so-called "molecule" is automatically created at the beginning of each article — a visualization of a cloud of links with the possibility of dynamic viewing. The larger this "molecule" is in terms of the number of components, the more weight a specific scientific work has in the scientific world.

Each published article is assigned a unique number. This will be important for the NFT mint going forward. The function of instant sharing of the article to social networks and platforms: Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter) and Reddit, as well as sending the material to e-mail, has also been implemented.

Now about the most interesting thing — the creation of NFT. This is not mandatory for the author of the article, but this approach of receiving a reward encourages scientists to work harder. You can start an article mint at any time, but it should be understood that a little-known article will be less profitable than the one in demand. To create an NFT, you should specify the address of the crypto wallet with ETH, enter the name of the token and choose an image. The unique number is transferred automatically.

We remind you that at this stage of development, authors can independently specify the value of their token.

It makes no sense to talk about the value of the mint, because it is a rather relative value that fluctuates greatly depending on the Ethereum exchange rate. But it is worth mentioning the optimization by Avivi specialists, which technically made the mint procedure three times cheaper, compared to the initial gas consumption.

The generated NFT is added to the article and available for sale. You can always check any NFT through OpenSEA, it looks like this:

As with articles and posts, NFT filtering is based on popularity, with tokens that receive more attention and reactions from the community rising to the top.

Let's sum up

The THIELIUM service has become another successful project from the Avivi team and is the result of a combination of many years of experience and advanced technologies. The traditional WEB 2.0 solution successfully works with WEB 3.0 functionality and uses blockchain capabilities to popularize science and support authors of scientific works. Development in Python guarantees stable operation and the ability to scale the project in the future. Our team was pleased to work with the customer's interesting ideas and contribute to the development of world science. We are always ready to help you implement a project of any complexity.
